A concept neither Christianity nor Evolution has answered for me...?

Man evolved in the equitorial plains of africa--cold was not an issue for survival. Without intelligence man could not have moved into areas of colder climate for that reason. However with the development of intelligence (a survival trait) man was able to move into areas of colder climate by wearing furs, discovering fire etc. Nothing unreasonable at all about the question.
