Start producing/ make rap beats.?

I'm 17 years old and would really like to break into the rap beat making/producing scene. The reason why is because i love to rap and its my dream. However, instead of the usual rapper route where most people buy beats from a producer i would like to produce my own. To not only be independent but versatile in the music game. The problem is i don't know where to begin when it comes to learning how to make good high quality beats. I already have Fl studio 10, and some good VST's, but when it comes to making good melody's and EQing, mastering, etc...i just get overwhelmed. I have the heart and determination but if you guys could recommend what i should learn first or any books, or any informative site would help. Any advice given will be greatly appreciated, and thank-you for your time.
