What are the Japanese outfits depicted in 'The Last Samurai' called?

I am not speaking of the Samurai armour but the everyday clothing worn by the samurai. If you'll recall, Captain Algren (Tom Cruise) tried them on and then began to wear them all the time. I do not think they are kimonos but I do not know the name. If anyone wants to take a stab at a second question, where can a person find clothing like that today?
